While dropping off clothes at a mission for homeless people and others, a young woman helped to unload the back of the pick-up. She was misplaced, a little wren in a big world. There was some wear-and-tear to her being. She hasn’t been out of my thoughts since. There was a beautiful little diamond shining inside of her, an innocence and beauty covered by the world’s grime.
When I asked if they accepted books, she replied they only accepted Christian books, adding that “um, I personally have no religion.” Her small fingers touched the base of her throat, her eyes full of yearning for a Life she does not yet know. She then went back into the building to her work.
Over and over I hear her words, “um, I personally have no religion.” That call echoing out through the universe, a plea in her eyes wanting so much more.
God loves her. She didn’t know it, yet. A relationship, not a religion.
I thought about the Word: “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us….” (Romans 5:8).
God’s Son provided the means and access to our Father, before we ever know Him, while we were enemies. He calls us to be reconciled to Him, to return to His Love. “God so loved the world, He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16. His work is finished, we have access directly to God through Jesus.
God loves her. His Son already died for her…. for the whole world.
“…Jesus Christ the righteous… and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.”
It is a wonderful thing to realize that Jesus already has paid the price for you. He erased all our sin and failures through His blood, through His death on the cross. Through the Father’s love, He died for you; through the Father’s life, He rose with you in Him. When you believe in Him and what He has done for you, you begin to know Who He is. Ask Him to show you Who He is, because He already knows you. He becomes your Life.
We all know that none can believe unless the Father gives him that. We know there are some chosen before the foundation of the world. We know that all things are out of Him, through Him and to Him. We know that He is God… therefore, whoever believes, is chosen.
“As far as the east is from the west, thus far has He removed your transgressions from you.” Clean, white as snow. A clear conscience before God. A new creation in Christ Jesus. A member of God’s own household… an heir… sons and daughters to the Most High God.
He tells us to remember His blood spilled for us. Remember what He provided through His death and resurrection. Celebrate His victory over sin and of death. Learn Who I AM, and the depths of the riches of His love for you. Remember Him, because He is coming again, to bring you with Him. He will never leave you, He will never forsake you. He is the means for sanctification, just as He provides redemption, justification.
Oh, Love that will not let me go…
